Product Description In this smart, tender, insightful new novel, bestselling author Holly Chamberlin introduces two very different women who, over the course of two unforgettable weeks, learn about unbreakable bonds, unshakeable love, and the chances that come once in a lifetime -- and change us forever...When Elizabeth Caldwell planned a trip to Florence with her daughter, Marina, she secretly hoped for a warm, fuzzy bonding experience worthy of a Lifetime movie. But Marina -- twenty-one, newly graduated, and close to her mom in many ways -- has always been more the PBS type: dependable, practical, and completely in control. Elizabeth knows Marina wants to avoid the kind of "stupid mistake" that left Elizabeth a single mother at twenty-two, and she's bitten her tongue as Marina settles for a wealthy fiance who gives her everything she thinks she wants. After all, Elizabeth -- unable to bring herself to fully commit to the man she has dated for years -- is hardly an expert in romance. Still, a lot can happen on vacation, especially in Tuscany, where every scent borne on the warm breeze inspires delight, and every view makes the heart soar. There, on streets once walked by Dante and Michaelangelo, Marina is blindsided by a gorgeous Italian named Luca who shows her how gloriously unpredictable passion can be, and Elizabeth finally lets go of the role that has defined her for so long to embrace her own uncertain future...

Escape to Florence July 5, 2010 Bette (Baden, PA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I very much enjoyed this tale about a mother and daughter on holiday in Florence. It's a good study of a complex relationship. Character growth is well portrayed. While I have a hard time believing that Marina would find such an incredible man so easily, it brings out the fantasy we all harbor! The mother was charming and wise. It was nice to revisit Florence through their eyes. The book was well-formatted for the Kindle.

Another fun read from HC. As always she gets her reader interested in relationships
and puts them in a great location. Here we have a single Mom and her daughter, Marina. Mom is nervous that Marina has picked her fiance for all the wrong reasons. Well! Who hasn't had a Mom that worries about her daughter's decisions. And how nice to be taken around Florence while issues are faced, romance shows up and a mother and daughter cement their relationship with love and respect. The reader roots for them and cheers the
both of them on, and Holly does not disappoint. RD"
Great Read July 9, 2010 Nancy Foy 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read this in a day because the writing was excellent and the story relevant. With two grown daughters of my own, I could understand all that Elizabeth was feeling. At the same time, I was interested in Marina's viewpoint. This book is thought provoking and applicable to real life.
Very well written and looking forward to more from this author July 9, 2010 Angela K. Risner (Ohio) I really enjoyed this book. It was so realistic that it was almost painful to read in some places.
The story switches back and forth between a mother and daughter as they embark on a trip to Florence. The mother has planned this trip as a college graduation present for her daughter, who is less than thrilled to have to spend two weeks with her mom and away from her fiance.
You learn the stories of these two women and where they are in their relationships with the men in their lives as well as with each other. Of course, the daughter believes that she knows everything, as she is 22 and engaged, while her mother, who was dumped by the biological father, has never been married.
A lot can happen in two weeks abroad, though, and things are not always as they seem. The daughter learns that maybe her mother isn't as stupid as she thought she was. The mother learns that she may have been giving some mixed messages to her daughter about commitment.
Overall, very enjoyable read and you will enjoy the scenery as well. Having just finished a book about the Medici line, I recognized many of the places they mention.
Great point of views July 22, 2010 J. Barrette (Orlando, Fl) I really enjoyed this book. It is a great story about a mother and daughter taking a vacation to Italy. The author paints a wonderful picture of Tuscany and also gives you a little lesson about the art. What I liked best was the ability to see things from the mother's point of view as well as the daughter's. I was able to relate to these two personalities as well as positions. I had a difficult time putting the book down, I do not agree with the review that this should have been a short story, I wish it had a second part!
